Many communities, such as Kent Woodlands in Marin County, CA, require that a certain percentage of the Driveway Gate is open, with a smaller percentage as solid. This obviously to prevent a neighborhood with barrier-like gates fronting the properties.

There is a decided difference between grids that overlap, such as lattice, and grids that are joined flush.

Note:  What we have here is an example of  of successive layers of finish applied with the best of intentions.  Read the labels:  Most stains and pigmented finishes seal on the first coat and any additional coats simply lay on the surface and result in a splotchy finish.
