STORAGE IDEA STACKED SIDEWAYSHow do you store the most CDs; records, and video and cassette tapes in a limited space? Stack them in pull-out bins that are accessible from the side. Charles Prowell applied this strategy to a family room. His solution takes advantage of a 28-inch-deep alcove next to the fireplace, providing more than twice the storage space than conventional shelving. The design stacks shelf units made from three-quarter-inch veneered plywood. Mounted on heavy-duty extention guides, the bins easily roll in and out. Semi-circular holes cut in the fir end panels serve as handles. When not in use the ten bins store out of sight behind a pair of tall fir doors mounted on European-style hinges. |
