We have also eliminated the open squares and the Pattern Blocks joined between the lower pickets shown in the above examples. It might, after all these modifications, be closer to a #20 than the #53. But what remains is the distinctive feature of the to rail arched on top and straight on bottom, and therefore it is labeled as a #53

The double off-set option is normally determined by an existing walkway, with a width that is somewhat cumbersome as a single garden gate and too narrow for equal double garden gates.

Although this particular Garden Gate in Marin County is only 42" wide, the Gate needed the added girth of a 2-1/4" thickness against the shear visual muscle of an existing overhead arbor.

The original Garden Gate #53 offers an arching top rail with a level bottom edge. Within the upper pattern, the two vertical dividers allow us to configure for 3 equal grid sizes, both vertically and horizontally, in much the same manner as the Gate Design #52, but with slightly less muscle

Often there are parameters within the existing architecture that call out the occasional radius, but with the overriding precedent of a angular geometry (Gabled rooflines). The straight bottom edge of the top rail in Garden Gate #53, incorporates both features.
